Does Eating Raw Foods Make Sense In The North?

Have you bought the idea that a completely raw food diet is the ultimate, most logical, best diet for all humankind, no matter where they live in the world? (Like eskimos eating watermelon…)

It seems to me that it’s the implied idea transmitted by many raw-foodists, raw food website, books and seminars.

The idea is:

Raw Food is Good, Cooked Food is Evil, and the World Would Be a Better Place If Everyone Ate Only Raw Foods

OK, I may be exaggerating, but often that’s the general tone of many of the raw food gurus’ message.

Is it actually true?

Would it be possible that the resources required to transport those foods would actually make the raw food diet fairly unecological, considering the fact that eating a diet of bananas and mangoes in Northern Canada isn’t the most natural choice?

How much food do you need as a 100% raw food eater?

It’s fairly well-known that anyone deciding to eat only raw foods in a sustainable way (for health) needs to eat a tremendous quantity of fresh fruits and vegetables.

High Cholesterol Foods ? Healthy, not Harmful

High cholesterol foods are usually foods high in saturated fats. High cholesterol foods are the more delicious foods. High cholesterol foods are mainly found in all animals and animal products, for example, egg yolks, meat, poultry, fish and higher fat milk products. High cholesterol foods are a major contributor to having high blood pressure. High cholesterol foods are bad for us, and God knew it.

Your body produces three to four times more cholesterol than you eat. The production of cholesterol increases when you eat little cholesterol and decreases when you eat much. In other words, the more high cholesterol foods you eat, the less cholesterol your body produces. It is true that the body – more specifically the liver – can produce cholesterol for the body’s needs. But taking cholesterol from high cholesterol foods can be helpful. When you do not take enough high cholesterol foods – for example, if you take mainly vegetable oils rather than animal fat containing cholesterol – the cholesterol in your blood will the transferred to your cells.

Low Glycemic Foods – 3 Myths About Low Glycemic Foods and the Glycemic Index

The glycemic index is one of the newer tools used to measure the “healthiness” of a food item. The lower the Glycemic Index score of the food item, the healthier it is supposed to be. Health Benefits of Organic Foods and Why is it Important to Buy Organic Foods

In the last 25 years I have been asked thousands and thousands of fitness related questions. Invariably the most prominent question is, with their hand patting their tummy, how do I lose this? My answer is the same every-time. Eat less (portion size in each setting), eat more often with protein and carbs combined together, and eat higher quality less processed foods.

Eating higher quality food on the surface seems easy. No junk food, right. That’s not enough anymore we must have more information because the quality of the food we are eating is at an all time low. The big food companies have laced everything with chemicals and preservatives so it will last longer so they can make more money. God did not intend for all those altered substances to be in our body. Thus, we are seeing many new diseases that seem to have no cause. I will tell you what the cause is; it’s the artificial sweeteners, artificial fats, chemicals and preservatives that we are putting in our mouth. We are what we eat.

When you understand that your body is in a constant state of regeneration, then the term “you are what you eat” takes on a whole different meaning.

What are the Advantages of Organic Raw Pet Foods for Your Pet?

Depending on the processing methods employed to produce them, commercial pet foods fall into one or the other of the following two categories:  heat-treated and raw.

So-called ‘heat-treated’ pet foods are processed using all-too-often excessive levels of heat.  These foods are baked, cooked (canned), extruded, or heat-dried (often the case with kibble- or pellet-type pet foods).  Diets based on such heat-treated pet foods are probably the least desirable in terms of maintaining the health and general well being of most animals.

Heat processing of food destroys all enzymes, many vitamins and antioxidants, and changes the molecular structure of proteins and even fibers.  Attempts to replace nutrients that have been destroyed by heat with supplementary—and predominantly synthetic—nutrients can never compare nutritionally with the benefits and quality of natural, minimally treated nutrients.  At present, there is no way to replace structurally altered fibers or denatured proteins.  These alterations make heat-processed foods and their constituent nutrients less bio-available or beneficial, and certainly less effective in maintaining health, preventing disease, and helping the healing processes that normally follow injury.  Structurally altered pet foods may actually contribute to health problems (e.g., food allergies or inflammation).
